In the past decade, Kees Bubberman, owner and brew master of Brouwerij Kees, made name and fame in the vibrant craft beer industry. A little piece of history: As an excellent home brewer, local brewery Emelisse Kamperland offered Kees a huge opportunity to kick off his professional brewing career. At this point, Kees has earned his stripes over the years brewing excellent beer. With his daring choice of brews, he reached beer lovers from all over the world. Next to classic styles, Kees brews his beer with a lot of guts and passion. Many of British and American style of beers such as: heavy Porters, coffee stouts and IPA’s.
Own independent brewery in 2015.
That dream came true: in his hometown of Middelburg he founded Brouwerij Kees! He got off to a flying start: in his first year Brouwerij Kees was voted “best of all” newcomer on Ratebeer.com. The international attention and appreciation took the beers of Brouwerij Kees far beyond the boundaries of The Netherlands and far over the world.
There was one big dream:
Own independent brewery
Pure & Craft
Meanwhile, the brewery and its capacity grew further while Kees’ team of passionate brewers got their routine down. Every time they surprise you with excellent beers, well-known for the Pure & Craft quality mark. It stands for brewing beer with bold flavours and of the best possible and constant quality. All of them classic styles, brewed with their own twist, character and surprising taste.
Beer in cans
In 2018, Brouwerij Kees was the first specialty beer brewer in the Netherlands to switch completely to cans. Unfortunately, we cannot influence heat and time, but as a brewer we can protect our beer against light and air. Hoppy beers retain their refined aromas and (hop) flavors much better in tins. At Brouwerij Kees, we immediately store all our freshly hopped beers in a specially equipped cold store, so that all finely crafted beers leave the brewery in perfect condition.
In addition to striving for the constant quality of our beers, there is also plenty of room for experimentation. We discover new styles or rediscover old styles with a new look. That makes the profession of beer brewer extra fun and challenging. At Brouwerij Kees we now use four different beer lines:
The beers in the so-called core range of Brouwerij Kees are classic, but have their own character due to the use of carefully selected hops or malt types. These beers are the pillars of the brewery. Some classics are Mosaic Hop, Hazy Sunrise and Caramel Fudge Stout.
Within the One-off Series, Kees and the brewing team are experimenting with new beer styles. They use new hop varieties, malt types or other additives. Think of Milkshake IPAs, Barrel Aged Double IPA, Pastry Sour, Imperial IPA and Double NEIPAs.
Barrel aging is the maturation of beer in a wooden barrel. Because the barrels once contained a certain type of spirit, the wood has its own character. In this way, barrel aging creates beautiful beers with a new taste palette. Think of vanilla or other sweet flavors in combination with woody aromas. We alternately fill Kees Export Porter or Barley Wine. Some of the varieties we have already used are Makers Mark Bourbon, Laphroaigh, Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam barrels.
Several times a year we invite some of our national and international brewer friends to our brewery. We share knowledge and expertise to create new beers. Besides brewing beer together, we of course like to drink some together as well. Breweries we have welcomed are Cloudwater (USA), Other Half (UK), Laugar (ES), La Pirata (ES), Hair of the Dog (USA), Marble (UK), North’s (UK), Wander Beyond (UK ), Magic Rock (UK), Pohjala (EST), Alvinne (B), AF Brewing (RUS), De Molen (NL), Kromme Haring (NL), Dutch Bargain (NL), More Brewing (NL), Alphabet Brewing (UK), Sori Brewing (EST), Velka Morava (RUS), Moor Brewing Company (UK), Van Moll (NL) and Haandbryggeriet (NO).
